2019 Mahindra Thar

Looking at the most anticipated new car launches for 2020, the next-generation Mahindra Thar is undoubtedly at the top of the list. The all-new Mahindra Thar is a successor to various iconic utility and off-road vehicles and several spy shots have been floating around for some time. Unfortunately, they are heavily camouflaged and don’t reveal too much details about the exterior, let alone the interior.

In the past, there have been a few guesses around the final look but we think this render could be the ultimate depiction of the test mules. It is realistic and very closely resembles the design of the production model. Even while camouflaged, the latest spy shots of the upcoming Mahindra Thar clearly shows a close correlation to the original Mahindra Thar design but with a modern twist ready for launch in 2020.

Mahindra Thar Exterior Rendering

The bumper has a new design but with a similar look as the existing Mahindra Thar but with added fog lamps that suit the Thar-type fenders beautifully. Overall, it appears to be a little broader and more mature with an angled front grille. Indicators are in the normal positions but in the mock-up, it uses LED lights instead of the old block-shaped units. The same applies to the round headlamps which also show LED DRLs surrounding them.

n the next rendered image, we see what the rear end of the new Mahindra Thar might look like. The taillights have a new, more modern design than the current model. The tailgate also gets a new stylish alloy wheel mounted to the back while the bumpers also look new. At that angle, it certainly appears that the new Mahindra Thar will be wider than the old one as a result of the new platform underpinning it. There are also talks that Mahindra will introduce a hardtop as an optional extra which adds even further value to the next-gen model.

Engine Specifications

One of the most talked-about changes to the next generation Mahindra Thar is the powertrain, a new 2.0-litre, BSVI compliant diesel engine providing around 140 horsepower. Some say there could even be a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine along with an automatic gearbox but only time will tell whether that is the case.

On the interior, the new Mahindra Thar gets new seats, a redesigned instrument cluster, electric windows and front-facing rear seats. Overall, the new Thar is exactly what off-road drivers have been asking for which is a more powerful version with more features and enhanced daily usability.
