Group1 Mahindra is happy to report that the global team has been diligently working behind the scenes, and Mahindra’s commitment to innovation and excellence recently culminated in a spectacular global event held in Cape Town.
During this event, Mahindra & Mahindra unveiled a grand vision for the future, aptly named Futurescape. One of the highlights of this event was the introduction of our groundbreaking concept model, the Global Pik-Up, which has already earned the nickname ‘Indian Hilux’.
We’re excited to share this compelling development with you, and we firmly believe it will challenge industry leaders like Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Isuzu.
Unveiling The Global Concept Pik-Up In South Africa
South Africa, being one of our largest Mahindra markets outside of India, served as the perfect backdrop for the unveiling of the Global Concept Pik-Up. The event brought together journalists, celebrities, and Mahindra senior executives under a stunning dome on Lourensford Estate in Somerset West.
For the passionate bakkie enthusiasts in South Africa, the main highlight was undoubtedly the unveiling of this innovative bakkie concept, currently known as Z121. Importantly, it’s crucial to note that this new model will complement the existing Bolero and Pik Up ranges, assembled in Durban, thereby expanding offerings for consumers.
What To Expect From The Global Concept Pik-Up
Veejay Nakra, President of the Automotive Division of Mahindra, and the visionary behind our South African venture since 2004, assures that at least 85% of the concept bakkie will make it to production. As a result, some of the more unconventional features, such as the two spare wheels in the load bay, will likely give way to a more conventional setup.
This new bakkie is a “from the ground up” development, featuring a strengthened chassis, custom suspension, new wheelbase, revised towing capacity, and modified track widths. Under the hood, you can anticipate the new generation 2.2-litre MHawk engine with 129kW and 400Nm, coupled with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
Cutting-Edge Technology And Safety
The Global Concept Pik Up promises to be a technological marvel. It will come equipped with a variety of off-road settings and on-road driving modes, including Zip, Zap, Zoom, and Custom. Safety features include the Eaton Locking Differential and level-2 semi-autonomous functions, such as adaptive cruise control, collision-warning braking, lane departure, lane centring technology, and automatic parking.
An Eye-Catching Interior
Inside, you’ll find a large touchscreen infotainment system and an analogue instrument cluster. We’ve also partnered with Harmon to develop a top-notch Harmon/Kardon sound system specifically tailored for the Pik Up.
What Lies Ahead
While there’s no official release date yet, we anticipate the Global Concept Pik Up to hit the market towards the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025. Rest assured, like all Mahindra vehicles, it will offer exceptional value for your money.
