New Design And Engines For The Next-Gen Mahindra Scorpio

2021 Mahindra Scorpio

The 2021 Mahindra Scorpio will power your adventure!

There’s good news for the SUV market as Mahindra & Mahindra is introducing various new models, including the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra XUV500, TUV300 facelift edition, e-KUV100 and the XUV300 electric. According to reports, the brand new Mahindra Scorpio could be launched toward the middle of this year.

Not only will the new Mahindra Scorpio look better on the outside but the interior has been completely redesigned offering even more space than before. And, if that’s not enough to get your engine racing, they’ve also decided to up the ante by introducing new engine options with manual and automatic gearboxes.

The New-Look Mahindra Scorpio

The new Mahindra Scorpio will be designed and developed on the modified version of the body-on-ladder frame underpinning the new Mahindra Thar. This new architecture, also known as ZEN3, claims to improve the performance, off-road capabilities and safety quotient of the new model.

While there aren’t too many images floating around, judging by the spy photos, it looks as though the Scorpio will retain the boxy profile but with brand new great-looking design elements. It will have a new front grille with the signature five-slot design and all-new headlights. If you opt for a top-spec version you will get LED projector headlights with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights).

The redesigned Mahindra Scorpio gets larger front bumpers with wider air-intakes, a longer bonnet and sleeker windscreen. They’ve added new alloy wheels complemented by more prominent wheel arches and refined shoulder creases showing a stronger beltline on the side. There are also roof-racks, blacked-out pillars and a larger tailgate.

New Mahindra Scorpio Interior Updates

Moving to the interior, the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be bigger, giving all occupants more space inside the cabin. The wheelbase of the new Scorpio will also be increased which provides ample legroom for the second and third-row passengers. Mahindra is also offering multiple seating options with a possibility of front-facing third-row seats.

It doesn’t stop there as the new Mahindra Scorpio SUV will have a better quality dashboard with a more refined finish. They’ve added an advanced touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity along with a navigation system. Other technologies and features include:

  • Automatic climate control and new air-conditioning vents
  • Power steering
  • Multi-function steering wheel
  • Electric windows
  • Cruise control
  • Adjustable driver’s seat

Rumour has it that the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio could also get a Head-Up Display (HUD) unit on the dashboard in the front of the driver’s seat. An electric sunroof may also be on the cards which would put this supposed ‘budget’ SUV a cut above the rest.

New Engine Specifications

Like the Mahindra Thar, the new Mahindra Scorpio will be available in either a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel or a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. However, the engines will be fine-tuned differently to enhance performance levels.

While the 2.2L ‘mHAWK’ diesel engine in the Thar produces 130bhp of maximum power and a peak torque output of 300Nm, it could deliver 160bhp and close to 350Nm of torque.

At the same time, the 2.0L ‘mStallion’ petrol engine on the Mahindra Thar currently produces 150bhp and 300Nm of torque, the same optimised engine could produce up to 190bhp and 380Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
