NEW Refrigerated Mahindra Bakkies Now Available In South Africa

Mahindra Pik Up refridgerated bakkie

The Mahindra Pik Up range expanded with two refridgerated bakkie options

How chilled is your pick-up? Because Mahindra has just unveiled two brand-new chilled Pik Up models that are poised to blow existing refrigerated bakkie variants straight out of the water…

Built on the always-in-vogue Mahindra Pik Up S4 chassis cab model, these new units follow hot on the heels of other trailblazing offerings such as the Pik Up Game Viewer, Ambulance and Mining Specification bakkie. These insightful new additions to the existing Mahindra line-up are all locally assembled at the KwaZulu-Natal facility and come with a full factory warranty.

According to Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa, their goal for the past 3 years, since the assembly facility opened on SA shores, has been to tap into the needs and wants of the local market.

Their forward-thinking team understands that for Mahindra to be truly successful in SA, they had to go beyond merely showing a commitment to local assembly, but also adapt their much-loved vehicles to suit local requirements, and budgets, of course.

So what can SA business owners look forward to when it comes to the brand-new chilled Mahindra bakkies? Here are some quick specs:

  • 2.2-litre four-cylinder mHawk turbo diesel engine
  • 103kW and 320 Nm
  • Six-speed manual transmission
  • Loading capability of 733kg in its refrigerated box
  • 6385-litre overall loading volume
  • Up to 750kg towing capability
  • Can be fitted with a part-time 4×4 drivetrain for rural or plot use
  • MLD locking differential standard on all models
  • Chiller model (with a maximum cooling ability of -5 degrees) and Freezer model (with a maximum cooling ability of -20 degrees Celsius)

You might be wondering how the R&D team managed to get such an impressive load capacity onto the S4 chassis cab, and we’re very happy to report that this design tour the force was the result of some very nifty engineering that placed the large square insulated box above the wheel arches. As such, it was possible to optimise both the Chiller and Freezer units without any intrusion from chassis parts.

Game-changing stuff, right?! It’s by understanding the needs of their target demographic to this extent that Mahindra continues to be an inspiring market leader on all fronts. Keep an eye on the blog for more info about exciting developments in this innovative auto camp.
