Mahindra Scorpio – A Lot of SUV For Remarkably Little Moola

Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra’s 2019 Scorpio

Any other SUV with this spec will cost much more. Any other SUV at this price will be much less car. The Mahindra Scorpio is simply the best value-for-money SUV in South Africa.

The Scorpio is a large 5-door SUV with a 2.2L turbodiesel engine and seating for 8 (2+3+3). It is available in 4×2 and 4×4, with both configurations giving you significant off-road capability. This is a handsome vehicle, in a rugged, masculine way. Yet it offers a crisp and refined drive that makes it at home in the city as well.

The legendary mHawk Euro II turbodiesel engine gives 88kW and 280Nm torque. Its new 5-speed manual gearbox is super slick and offers low-range in the 4×4. Both versions have a fuel consumption of 7.2 L/100km.

The 180mm ground clearance and 800mm high air intake make it very bundu-friendly, while the 1 900kg towing capacity allows you to take it all with you. Fold-down seats give you a load volume of 928/1664L.

To list all the features will take too long, but here are some. Engine auto stop-start when idling, alloy wheels, power steering, multifunction steering wheel controls, on-board computer information display, Bluetooth, voice control, USB port, air-conditioning, central locking, electric windows, daytime running lights, park distance control, and much more.

As far as safety goes, the Scorpio has you covered too. Safety features include dual front airbags, crash protection crumple zones, side-impact beams, a collapsible steering column, a digital key-encrypted engine immobilizer system, an anti-theft alarm system, an emergency brake warning system, light-sensing auto on/off headlights, a speed alert warning, tyre pressure monitoring and an anti-pinch driver side window.

In addition, the Scorpio’s cushion suspension and anti-roll technology provide fantastic stability and road holding, while ABS and EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution) will help to stop quickly and safely in an emergency. The tyres are 17” with discs in front and drums at the back.

The Mahindra Scorpio offers a 3-year/100 000km warranty and 3-year/60 000 service plan. The price ranges from under R300 000 for the 4×2 and R330 000 for the 4×4. These prices are valid in October 2019 and dependent on current price promotions.

As we said, this is a lot of car at a great price. Why not test drive the Mahindra Scorpio and see for yourself?
