Mahindra's Futuristic Electric Car With Mood-Sensing Capabilities

Dreams of a car that senses your mood and adjusts its ambience accordingly may soon become a reality, thanks to Mahindra and Mahindra’s (M&M) pioneering efforts in the electric vehicle (EV) space.

M&M is developing a cutting-edge electric vehicle equipped with advanced functionalities at its state-of-the-art Mahindra Research Valley facility in Chennai. The vehicle is reportedly built on a born-electric platform with 5G connectivity and AI computing capabilities, enabling futuristic features such as mood detection and remote upgrades.

R Velusamy, President of Automotive Technology and Product Development at M&M, highlighted, “The computing strength of this new architecture would be five times more powerful than existing EV platforms.”

A captivating aspect of the new Mahindra BEV is its capacity to sense and respond to the driver’s mood. Fitted with an array of sensors and radars, this car can identify up to five different moods, tailoring its responses to create a driving environment that resonates with the driver’s emotions. For instance, when a driver is having a rough day, the car can respond by playing uplifting tunes or sharing a lighthearted joke.

Safety is a key focus in the development of the BEV. If the driver is either intoxicated or exhausted, the vehicle’s sensor system will trigger essential safety measures, such as slowing down the vehicle, issuing timely alerts, and even displaying a coffee symbol in the infotainment system to suggest a break.

More importantly, the system monitors the driver’s and co-driver’s eye movements, ensuring focus on the road. If hands stray from the steering wheel when attention is crucial, the sensors can also alert the driver. Furthermore, the sensors are programmed to detect unusual incidents inside the vehicle, such as potential break-ins or suspicious behaviour, ensuring the safety of the occupants.

The EV will feature more advanced features like autonomous parking, Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) offering EyeQ6 chipsets, a new lightweight battery and 16 Harman speakers. As we eagerly anticipate the next developments on this cutting-edge platform, it’s clear that Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) are taking a transformative shift towards a more connected, intuitive, and empathetic driving experience.
