What You Need To Know: New 5-Door Mahindra Thar
As you may well have heard by now, especially if you are an off-road enthusiast, Mahindra is launching a new 5-door version of the popular Thar SUV – set for launch internationally in August 2024.
The global unveiling will take place on 15 August with the Indian-based brand having chosen South Africa for the reveal, which is even more exciting!
The 3-door Thar is already popular in the off-road lifestyle segment and now the introduction of the 2024 Mahindra Thar 5-door is bound to make some waves.
5-Door Thar’s New Features?
While official details are still under wraps, rumour has it the 5-door Thar would retain the rugged styling of the current 3-door model. It will be based on the Mahindra’s third-generation ladder frame chassis, which was introduced with the Scorpio-N in 2022, and is speculated to come with a choice of either a 2.2-litre turbodiesel or a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine.
The extra doors on the 5-door Thar will mostly allow for more interior space and seat length with revised armrests.
The interior is also said to feature keyless entry and push-button; a removable hard-top; all-around electric windows; 10.25-inch instrument cluster and infotainment system; a dash camera; and a sunroof – making those adventures that much more fun!
The price will also increase from the existing 3-door, with the current price of the 3-door around R240 000 to R380 000.
None of this is confirmed by Mahindra yet for the South African market, but if even half the buzz is true, the 5-door Thar could be a very compelling entrant in the burgeoning lifestyle off-road vehicle segment locally.
